Matrimony: Matrimony is a sacrament of mission and service, which reflects the trinity as a man and a woman come together to make an unbreakable bond such as that of the Holy Trinity. Form: The form of Matrimony is through the words spoken by both the husband and the wife to each other. These words are as follows: "I,_____, take you, _____, to be my wife/husband. I promise to be true to you in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health. I will love you and honor you all the days of my life." Matter: The matter for the sacrament of matrimony is mutual consent to live together in the marriage covenant as husband and wife and the consummation of the sacrament. Minister: The ministers of the sacrament are NOT members of the clergy in the sacrament of Matrimony, in this sacrament the bride and the groom are the ministers of the sacrament while the church acts as a witness. Receiver: If each spouse are baptized without any impediment to enter the sacrament, the two may receive Holy Matrimony. If one spouse is not baptized however, they may still be married, but it is not the sacrament of Holy Matrimony, but instead a natural marriage. Frequency: The sacrament may only be received once and to one spouse as long as the spouse is living. If a spouse were to pass, the other spouse would be able to remarry and receive once more the sacrament of Holy Matrimony. Effect: The effects of receiving the sacrament of Holy Matrimony are: the two become "one flesh", perpetual and exclusive covenant partnership and free, total, faithful and fruitful nuptial love. Three Readings: The three readings I would choose for my wedding are 1 Corinthians Chapter 13, Matthew Chapter 5, verses 1-10 and Genesis Chapter 1, verses 26-28. The first reading I choose, 1 Corinthians Chapter 13, talks about how vital love is to human and spiritual life. It even goes on to state how you can have everything even knowledge but without love, you have nothing. I choose this reading because I truly believe what it reads. Love is vital and love is powerful. It is something to embrace and to keep close to you as knowledge and material items, they come in handy, but love gets you through it all. The second reading I choose, Matthew Chapter 5, verses 1-10, tells of Jesus teaching others the Beatitudes. I choose this reading because of the message it sends. It teaches us how to be kind to others. Not only does being kind to others make their lives happier but it will also bring us joy in the process. Overall I choose this reading because the Beatitudes are a very important set of standards which will in turn result in happiness for everyone, not just yourself. The third and final reading I choose, Genesis Chapter 1, verses 26-28, talks about God as he creates man and woman on earth in his image. It shows the link between man and woman as he takes a rib from the man to create the first woman. They are created to watch over God's earth and to love each other and eventually multiply. I choose this reading because it talks about how man and woman are meant to love and how God in turn loves them with all of his heart, something we should strive to mimic.
