Baptism -Baptism is a sacrament of initiation that brings us into Christ's mystical body. My baptism was received when I was an infant on March 24, 2002 at Our Lady of Lourdes. Form - The form for Baptism is the minister of the sacrament says the words, "I baptize you in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.' Without these words the baptism is NOT considered valid. Matter- The matter for Baptism is Holy water which is to be sprinkled, poured or the candidate is immersed in the water. However in an emergency any water is fine be it salt or fresh or even tap water. Minister-The minister of ordinary baptism is an ordained clergy member such as a deacon, priest or bishop. In an extraordinary baptism such as an emergency (life or death that is) anyone who has be baptized can baptize the individual. Receiver- Anyone who has NOT been previously baptized can be baptized! Age and previous religion and race DO NOT matter, all are welcome! Frequency- Baptism is a sacrament that can only be received ONCE. Even if you were baptized in a different Christian faith, your previous baptism will be seen as valid and you will not need to be baptized again. Effect- Baptism has many effects on the individual. These effects are: Removes Original and actual sin, causes new birth, incorporates into Christ, is the doorway into the Church and is an indelible or permanent spiritual mark imprinted on the soul.
